These studios are available for general use by Education students, staff and faculty when not booked for a class.

  • The Teaching and Learning Studios may be booked for Faculty of Education courses or workshops.
We are not able to accommodate external booking requests.
  • As per the Vision of the Teaching and Learning Studios, only one of the two rooms, between Scarfe 1006 & Scarfe 1007 is bookable at any one time to ensure that space is available for drop-in student use.
  • As per the Principles of Use outlined in May 2018, during the months of September and October of 2018, booking preference is given to workshops and events that provide examples of teaching and technology integration in flexible environments; outside of September and October, booking preference is given to students using the space in a collaborative, creative way.
  • The Scarfe Teaching and Learning Studios are not silent study space, nor regularly scheduled classroom space.
  • Students do not need to book the room for group work; students should only book the room if they intend to use all of the space to capacity (or near it), or all the hardware at once.

Use of the studios is governed by the Faculty of Education’s Teaching and Learning Studio Use Policy and UBC Policy #104, Responsible Use of Information Technology Facilities and Services .

Computer Access

Effective August 25, 2014, a teaching and learning studio account is no longer required to access the facilities. The teaching and learning studios have been migrated to UBC’s Enterprise Active Directory (EAD), and users now log in using their EAD-enabled Campus Wide Login (CWL) account.

Note: The first time logging into a computer may take a few minutes as the system generates your profile. Successive logins to the same computer will be much faster.

Students:

  • Log in with your CWL using the format:   cwl.stu
    Example:   smith.stu
  • If you are unable to login, please reset your CWL password at:   cwl.ubc.ca/myAccount
It may take up to 15 minutes for your EAD access to the computer labs to be updated. Public computers are available in the Education Library on the main floor of the Neville Scarfe Building, or use any internet-connected computer or device.

Instructors/Staff:

  • Log in with your CWL:   cwl

Printing

Laser printing is available from the computer labs via the Education Library printers. A UBCcard is required.
