Video Conferencing
Video conferencing allows for real time video and audio communication between multiple sites. Participants can share their computer screens or use other presentation devices.
Web Conferencing
Online meetings can be held in any location using conferencing applications such as Skype or FaceTime .
The Blue Jeans system provides multi-site conferencing, allowing multiple connections from sites using video conferencing units, Skype, and/or telephone.
Blackboard Collaborate is a web conferencing tool which provides online collaboration space where classes, meetings, presentations, discussion groups can be facilitated via an interactive web conferencing tool.
Video/Web Conferencing Facilities
The Faculty of Education has two facilities which are equipped for video/web conferencing:
Scarfe 308A
Available for Faculty of Education local presentations, audio, video, and web conferencing, with events requiring video/web conferencing receiving first priority. Cannot be booked for classes.
Room Capacity
Boardroom layout - 10 to 16 people

- mounted television for use with a laptop or other device (VGA or HDMI)
- mounted speakers
- integrated table mounted microphones (for conferencing)
- video conferencing unit (Tandberg 95 MXP, H.323)
- skype/web conference camera
- teleconference capability
- wired Network/Internet Access Port (UBC Campus Wide Login (CWL) required)
- wireless Network/Internet connections (UBC Campus Wide Login (CWL) required)
Capabilities include:
- Video Conferencing
H.323 video conferencing using a Tandberg 95 MXP - Web Conferencing
including Skype, BlackBoard Collaborate, and Adobe Connect - Telephone Audio Conferencing
Can be used for teleconferencing calls; arrange through your departmental voice administrator - Presentations
Provided equipment supports presentations from the following:- built-in Room Computer (running Microsoft Windows 7)
- laptop using VGA or HDMI connections
- video device using RCA connections
Combinations of the above may be used. Within the room, one may combine:
- Video and telephone audio conferencing
- Web and telephone audio conferencing
In cooperation with BCNet, UBC IT AV Services is currently testing multi-site conferencing. The Blue Jeans system allows for multiple connections from sites using video conferencing units, Skype and/or telephone.

Amenities
The enterprise video conference room features two wall mounted 80” HD flat panel displays. The BlueJeans Network bridging service is available to connect conference participants with colleagues elsewhere who do not have access to a traditional video conferencing facility. A PC is mounted in the equipment rack and available for use with a wireless keyboard and mouse. The entire AV system is controlled from either a wireless tablet control panel, or a wall mounted touch screen controller.

- 1 x Room PC with wireless keyboard and mouse
- Ceiling microphones
- Wireless AV interface
- Table mounted AV connection boxes, with retractable cables
- 2 x Wall mounted audio speakers for program & conference audio
- 1 x HDCP compliant digital video processor/switcher
- 1 x Wireless tablet control panel
- 1 x Wall mounted touch screen control panel
- Additional connection cables are provided for connecting laptops and other mobile devices

Each Faculty unit has designated staff who are authorized to book these meeting rooms. Please contact the appropriate person in your department if you are a Faculty of Education member and would like to reserve a room.
Events requiring video/web conferencing receive first priority; these meeting rooms cannot be booked for classes.
